PLANT DESCRIPTION - SENECIO

Senecio

Senecio means ‘old man’ but the invigorating effect of colour and shape that Senecio can bring makes them anything but ‘old’!

Native (like so many other plants) to South Africa and Madagascar they belong to the daisy family of plants.

The most common ornamental forms are cascading (see our trailing/hanging basket section), groundcovers and shrub-like.

The shrub (‘Crassissimus’) and groundcover forms (‘Serpens’, ‘Talinoides’ et al) perform best in full sun. These make wonderful contrast plants in the garden.

Summer dormant, fertilizing should be undertaken in Autumn and ensure your growing media is very free draining because excess water in summer can lead to rot.
