EUPHORBIA

Euphorbia are a truly diverse family of plants.

The common name Spurge derives from an old French term ‘espurge’ meaning “to purge“, a reference to the plants sap being used as a purgative (definitely not recommended today!!)

The Cactus-like Euphorbia tend to be native to the desert regions of Southern Africa and Madagascar and in some cases can ultimately grow into a formidable size.

The ‘Crown of Thorns’ (Euphorbia Millii) with their extravagant and super long lasting flowers are native to Madagascar and were first introduced to Europe in the early 1800’s.

Yet other Euphorbia are native to India and tropical Asia.

The popularity of Euphorbia has developed worldwide.

More recently, the creation of new varieties has occurred right here in Australia.

When it comes to Euphorbia, there is something for everyone!
